Title(s):
  • History
  • Ἱστορία
    (Historia, History)
Period covered:
At least the Quinisext council of 691/692.
Language:
Greek
State of Preservation:
Fragmentary
Genre:
  • Secular history (general)
  • Chronicle (general)
  • Ecclesiastical history
Remarks:
The precise nature of the work is unclear. The fact that it discussed a council suggests an ecclesiastical history or a chronicle, but the first genre was rarely practised in this period and there are no other examples of chronicles discussing the council of 691-692.  An early date of the author (eighth-ninth century) is possible but far from certain. There is a remote possibility that he is identical with Constantine the Deacon.
