Author:
Period covered:
Origins of Goths and Heruls
Language:
Latin
State of Preservation:
Fragmentary
Genre:
  • Secular history (classicizing history)
  • Geography
  • Secular history (general)
Remarks:
The nature of the work is disputed: it is often taken to be a full history of the Goths, but in all likelihood it was either a more limited work of geography or ethnography on Goths and Heruls, or Jordanes culled the fragments from an ethnographic digression in a wider work of history that was not specifically dedicated to the Goths.
