Remarks:
Although we do not know the date of Diogenes, we can suppose that he lived in Late Antiquity, as the title of his work is typical of this period. While reporting information about Diogenes, the Suda adds a different name (ἢ Διογενειανός) and a list of grammatical works. According to Müller (FHG IV, 391-392), Diogenianus was another grammarian under the reign of Hadrian: Diogenianus of Heraclea Pontica. In his edition of Diogenes, he includes a fragment by Clement of Alexandria (Protrepticus 5.65) which mentions a Diogenes, author of Persika (ὥς φησι Διογένης ἐν αʹ Περσικῶν). Jacoby does not consider it a fragment of our author.
