Commenting on Exodus 1, Jacob of Edessa says that the wickedness of the Egyptian kings was described by Methodolus, the chronographer (lit. 'writer of the times') of the Egyptians. Assemani (1719: 488) supposes that Jacob is referring to Manetho.
