Chronographia Scaligeriana

Title(s):
  • Chronographia Scaligeriana
Period covered:
Creation-518
Language:
Greek
State of Preservation:
Hypothetical
Genre:
  • Chronicle (chronography)
Remarks:
This is the hypothetical original of the Excerpta Latina Barbari. As shown by R. Burgess (2013), this work was composed in different stages and drew on various earlier collections of material: a compilation of Alexandrian chronographic material composed under Zeno (476-491) or Justin (518-527), based on the Exposition of times; a collection of regnal lists ultimately based on Julius Africanus; and the Consularia Scaligeriana (cf. that entry). This last addition happened in the 530-550s. The Greek original is not preserved but was translated into Latin in Gaul, probably in the eighth century (cf. Excerpta Latina Barbari).
