Remarks:
Michael the Great, Chronicle 10.20 describes the genre of Daniel's work as 'stories that resemble ecclesiastical histories'. The list in Nau 1915-1917 ranks him among the writers who wrote about ecclesiastical matters on the period 'from Theodosius the Younger to Justinian the Elder', corresponding to c. 450-550, but fragments report events related to reign of Abd al-Malik (685-705) and to the years 737/738, 742/743, 745/746. In Michael the Great, Chronicle 11.16, Dionysius of Tell Mahre says that Daniel was his maternal grandfather, and calls him 'Daniel son of Samuel' (cf. Conrad 1990: 37 n. 113).
