History of the Syrians

Title(s):
  • History of the Syrians
  • Պատմութիւն Ասորիք
    (patmut‘iwn Asorik‘, History of the Syrians)
Period covered:
Ca. 300- 537
Language:
Syriac
State of Preservation:
Fragmentary
Genre:
  • Chronicle (general)
Remarks:
Psuedo-John Mamikonean notes how the abbots of the monastery of Glak noted down important events, suggesting that these were not ecclesiastical events. The first to do so was Zenob, implying that this was a continuation of his history. So we are dealing with a sort of local chronicle, continuously kept up to date. The reference may be spurious, as Pseudo-John is suspected of having invented sources.
