Remarks:
Malalas quotes ‘those who expound the Patria of Alexandria the great’ while narrating the death and the burial of Cleopatra. Nothing is known about his source or sources. Malalas’ reference to Patria could be interpreted in two different ways: either he used late antique patria of Alexandria, or he relied on different texts describing the origin and the history of the city. The two possibilities do not exclude each other.
