Remarks:
In the preface, the author says that he summarized in one volume 'decem Valerii Maximi libros'. It suggests that Paris read an edition of Valerius' work, which was divided in ten parts: however, modern editions present just nine books. As Faranda (1971: 13-14) writes, such a problem is very difficult to solve. According to Traube, the work of Valerius Maximus was preceded by an index: this part, along with the Introduction, could have been taken as a first book (Kappelmacher 1918: 688).
