Remarks:
Averil Cameron and J. Herrin suggest that Caracallus the praepositus was a member of the 'circle' that compiled the Parastaseis syntomai chronikai (Cameron and Herrin 1984: 12). The only fragment is preserved in the Parastaseis syntomai chronikai 41, which is addressed to Philocalus, probably another member of the Parastaseis 'circle'. The office of praepositus had declined by the sixth century (Kazdhan 1991: 1709), which could render an earlier dating for Caracallus possible.
