Remarks:
In his letter, Sidonius Apollinaris reveals that he was asked by Prosper of Orléans to write a life of Annianus of Orléans and to cover specifically the raid of Attila ending in the battle of the Catalaunian Plains (451). The work may also have been a history in which Annianus played a major role. Sidonius did not circulate the work and abandoned it in favour of a panegyric of Annianus. The extant Vita Anniani might go back to this abandoned work of Sidonius.
