Period covered:
Christ-author's time?
Language:
Arabic
State of Preservation:
Partial
Genre:
- Ecclesiastical history
Remarks:
The only manuscript preserving the work, discovered and restored by Haddad, misses most of the first quire, and some folios are illegible or damaged. According to the final colophon, the manuscript contains the first of the two parts of which the work was composed. This first part stops in 363, the second probably continued up to the author's time.
The manuscript was initially thought by Haddad (1986) to be a copy of the Chronicle of Seert, because of the extensive parallels between the two works. Later, Haddad himself (2000: preface) argued that the manuscript is more likely to contain a independent new text largely based on the same sources used by the Seert chronicler, a position confirmed and strengthened by Teule (2009).
