In his Book of admonition and revision, Al-Masudi mentions, among the Christian historical works of his knowledge, the book of an otherwise unknown scribe named Ya'qub ibn Zakhariya. He does not report the precise title of the book, nor its contents, but he says that it contained learned studies 'on these matters' [i.e. historical matters] and that it was superior to the other books made by Christians. The book may have been written in Syriac or in Arabic.
