Remarks:
Reporting the conquest of Alexandria by the Muslim general Amr ibn al-As, the anonymous chronicler of 1234 and Michael the Great say that, according to some Egyptian stories, the miaphysite patriarch Benjamin opened the city to the enemy out of hostility against the Chalcedonian patriarch Cyrus. In both witnesses the narrative is introduced in the first person ('We found in the tales and stories of the Egyptians'): they are both reproducing literally the shared source, which in this case is most likely Dionysius of Tell Mahre. He may be reproducing a text he encountered during his travels to Egypt.
