Remarks:
A work on Caesar is mentioned by John the Lydian, On months 4.102. Valens could be identified with Statius Valens, the author of a life or a history of Trajan (Historia Augusta, Life of Severus Alexander 48.6). The authenticity of the latter and hence the identification is doubtful. The date of the author is uncertain and he could well predate Late Antiquity.
