Remarks:
Marsilio Ficino translated Proclus' text into Latin, and entitled it Opus Procli de sacrificio et magia. Until Bidez rediscovered the Greek original, this edition remained the only one available. Its focus is on the philosophical interpretation of Greek rituals rather than on a historiographical discussion of them.
Some scholars consider the transmitted text not to be complete (e.g. Sheppard 1980: 159; Helmig 2012). According to O'Meara (2014: 177), it is just 'an excerpt made by Psellos, or by someone like him'.
