Genre:
  • Poetry (historical epic)
Remarks:
The work, mainly attested in Socrates' Ecclesiastical history, was an epic poem. The references do not allow us to decide if it covered Julian's time as Caesar too, just his sole rule, or merely the Persian campaign. Kallistion/Kallistos was assessor of the Praetorian Prefect Secundus Salutius.
Michael the Great thinks that the work was a history and he has a further reference to Callistus writing a history of Jovian too. That reference may well be spurious.
