The Chronicle is a brief history of the Monasteries of Sargisiah and Bar Gagai, in the border area of Gubos near Melitene, from their foundation to the death of John, archimandrite of Bar Gagai. The term Chronicle (maktbānūtā) is used by Michael the Great to introduce the account of Lazarus. Lazarus simply talks about a 'history' (taš'ītā).
