Remarks:
Nautin (1982) has suggested that the text is actually the last portion of the lost ecclesiastical history ascribed by the sources to Elias of Merw. This identification is deemed farfetched by Brock (1996-2008) and Hoyland (1997), but is followed by Wood (2013: 183).
