The original poem has not survived: a Byzantine epitome (written around the eleventh century: see Bodenheimer - Rabinowitz 1949: 14-16) is the main witness to its contents, along with the excerpts inserted in an epitome of Aristotle's History of animals (an extended version of Aristophanes of Byzantium's work: see BNJ 652 T1).
