On Julian's Persian war

Title(s):
  • On Julian's Persian war
Period covered:
362-363?
Language:
Greek
State of Preservation:
Fragmentary
Genre:
  • Secular history (classicizing history)
  • Secular history (general)
Remarks:
The work is only known from John Malalas (Chronicle 13.23). Eutychianus may have to be identified with Eutychianus Protoasekretes and may be the same one as the Eutychianus mentioned by Libanius (Letter 1302).
Seeck (1906: 537-539) suggested that Eutychianus was one of the sources of Ammianus Marcellinus and a Christian who wrote a chronicle similar to the chronographic work by Eusebius of Caesarea. The hypothesis was rejected by Thompson (1947: 27-33).
