Period covered:
668-720?
Language:
Greek
State of Preservation:

Genre:
  • Chronicle (general)
  • Secular history (general)
Remarks:
Based on the extensive parallels between Theophanes' Chronographia and Nicephorus' Breviarium for the period 668-720, Mango (1990: 15-16) inferred that they used the same source, which he labelled 'Chronicon ad a. 720 pertinens'. Howard-Johnston (2010: 306) and Treadgold (2011) maintain that it must have been the lost History ascribed to the patrician Trajan.
