On Antioch

Title(s):
  • On Antioch
Period covered:
Unknown
Language:
Greek
State of Preservation:
Fragmentary
Genre:
  • Secular history (local history)
  • Oration
Remarks:
The titles of Julian's works are unknown. Evagrius links the sophist with other authors (Strabo, Phlegon, Diodorus, Arrian, Peisander, Ulpianos and Libanius) who wrote about the Greek origin of Antioch. Foundations of cities were typical arguments of the sophistic cultural context (see Ulpianus' patrias). For these reasons, we may suppose that Julian wrote something similar.
