A version of the anonymous History of the monks in Egypt circulated under the name of Timothy, bishop of Alexandria. Scepticism has been expressed (cf. Schulz-Flügel 1990: 20-22; Cain 2016: 40-48): Sozomen would have mistaken the author Timothy for the Alexandrian bishop. One can also consider the possibility that Sozomen had access to a different version.
