Remarks:
Ryssel (1893: 1) asserts that the Chronicle is a sort of astronomical treatise on feasts, lunar and solar cycles, months and weeks. George's interest in astronomical matters is indeed clear from his letters. However, the Anonymous Chronicle of 1234 (Chabot 1920: 26) quotes George of the Arabs about the computation of years. Moreover George's letters include many references to historical notices and an interest in chronological reconstructions such as date of Christ’ birth (Ryssel 1891: 49), the years of imprisonment of Gregory the Illuminator (Garitte 1946: 409) and the years from the emperor Aurelian to the Council of Nicea (Garitte 1946: 416). It is likely, therefore, that his Chronicle was not a simply theoretical treatise but included also chronological calculations of historical events.
