Chronicle

Abdisho presents Symeon's work as a translation of Eusebius' Chronicon, whereas Elias of Nisibis says that the Orientals (i.e. East-Syrian Christians) considered this to be the case. Baumstark (1922: 135-136) suggests that it was rather a translation of the Chronicle of Andronicus, whom Elias mentions immediately before Simon. Since we lack any information about the original language of Andronicus's work, which might as well be Syriac, as assumed by Witakowski (1999/2000: 435-436), Baumstark's hypothesis is not compelling.
