In the historical section of the Book of the Tower (traditionally ascribed to Amr ibn Matta, but according to more recent studies authored by Saliba) it is narrated that before being elected Bishop of Seleucia-Ctesiphon (411/412), Ahai traveled on behalf of King Yazdegerd I. After having visited the martyrs' graves in Persia, he decided to compose his work.
Daniel son of Mary states that Ahai composed a work on the East Syrian martyrs, a notice reported by the author of the Chronicle of Seert and Amr ibn Mattā.
