Remarks:
Focke (1911: 57-69) and Henry (1938: 291-293) suggest to identify Sopater the sophist with the Neo-Platonist philosopher from Apamea (late third - early fourth century); Glöckner (1927: 1002-1006) identifies him with an Athenian rhetorician of the fourth century; Janiszewski (2006: 83-84) links him to our Sopater of Alexandria. The same entry mentions a Selection from histories, which could be identified with the Various extracts.
