John, son of Abba Moses, is the author of the original Coptic text of the Lives 43 (Alexander II, 705-730) to 46 (Michael I, 744-768) of the History of the patriarchs of Alexandria, and of a separate, longer biography of patriarch Michael I, to whom he was personally linked.
