The sources do not specify when he lived. Jacoby (FGrHist 740) proposes the Imperial age. Schwartz (1895: 134-135) suggests instead the 3rd c. BC, but this raises some problems (see Paradiso in BNJ 740). PLRE I, p. 120 considers Apollonius to be a historian of the 4th/5th c.
